Dilectio Wordpress Theme

Posted on: Friday, Dec 21, 2007

Tags: , , , ,

I made a new fresh wordpress theme for the readers of Smashing Magazine.

“Over the last year Elena, the creative mind behind Design Disease team, has designed a number of free WordPress themes, as the Smashing WordPress Theme we released as a present for our readers during our One-Year-Anniversary in September’07. Afterwards we’ve contacted Elena and asked if it’s possible to design another Wordpress theme for our readers. Elena agreed.

After we’ve discussed the details of the design and the main aims we wanted to achieve, Elena started to do her magic. The result is a fresh, clean, user-friendly and playful Wordpress theme “Dilectio” — a smashing Christmas present for Smashing Magazine readers.”

Dilectio Wordpress Theme

Update 12.01.2007This theme is availble also in :

and also a version for Blogger (Thank you Francisco)

Got some problem using this theme on http://www.sosuechtig.de/ - no idea why it doesn’t show any entries. There are also some problems on the other “pages”, only the imprint works: http://www.sosuechtig.de/impressum/

Any hints?

I would like to know why the sidebars are not showing in the single page. And the Comments are causing a error.
If you check out the test site, you will see I added a ad in the header. Let me know if you want to know how I did it.
I will need to fix the errors and tweak it before I use it for the main site. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have problems with “is_wpuser_comment()” than just comment out (add two slashes “//” before echo) echo on line 32 in comments.php..

Problem: The FlickrRSS feed on the screenshots looked really good and then I installed the theme and activated that plugin and my photos look nothing like it. What tweaking did you do to get the smaller thumbnails? I’ve been looking through the CSS and it’s almost as if the css is not being called properly into that area.

Thoughts? Fixes? Thanks! Great theme too!

Search page pagination problem on http://www.rosecantine.com which uses Dilectio: when you type a word in the search box, for example “nokia” and there is more than one page with search results, when you click on page 2 at the bottom of the first search page, you do not get to the second page of search results, rather you are sent to a page with a blog post.

Can anyone help?

Otherwise, this is a most beautiful theme!

To Rafael Ziggy and Esme Vos:

If you use the “nice-search” plugin, your problems will be solved. Get if from http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/nice-search/. Your search result page’s URL will now look like: http://www.yourdomain.com/your-wp-folder/search/searchterm. If there is reason for pagination, the next page will be http://www.yourdomain.com/your-wp-folder/search/searchterm/page/2/ etc… and you will get the correct search result page content. You can take a look at my site to see how it works, if you want. Use “cross” as search term, it should give you 3 pages. They all display correctly. Good luck.

Congrats to Elena for a fantastic theme.

Thank you…anyway i have updated the theme and reduced the width with 5 px to fit 1024 Screen Size.

48 @herospy
There is a default class for every image that is used in the posts. Remove this from css code.

/**/ * html .PostContent p img {} /* */
.PostContent p img { max-width: 420px;}
.PostContent p img { width:expression(this.width > 420 ? “420px” : this.width); }
.PostContent img { margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left; border:solid 1px #495b6b;}

I absolutely love this template but I noticed a small glitch that happens when you click a category. (It happens on the demo as well.) If there is a link in the post it disappears if someone clicks one of the categories. In the demo I noticed it when you click uncategorized, second page, post titled “A post with links and 3 pages within”. But in general that happens to all my posts with links if a visiter just clicks any category that may have a link.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi Elena,

I really love your themes and have used three of them for my blogs.

http://www.celebfluff.com/ - Dilectio
http://www.emily2u.com/ - GossipCity
http://www.mymovieland.net/ - Smashing Theme

However, I have issues with my SEARCH function for all three blogs. I have tried using “Nice Search” plug-in but it does not work.

I typed in obvious words that are in my blogs, but I sometimes get a “The webpage cannot be found” or “404 - Not Found
Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.”

Also, I get “The webpage cannot be found” when I use SEARCH from inner pages, example, from Archives or Categories.

I hope that you can help me with this as soon as possible.

Thank you!

To Vijay: You can try to adjust following settings in wp-content\themes\dilectio\style.css:

#bgcontainer - width: 999px
.Header - width: 999px
.CON - width: 969px
.Footer - width: 969px

I quickly tried that, but can’t guarantee that it will not mess up alignment of various elements in the theme.

Excellent Theme!!

But there’s one bug: When I post images, they are not in the right “box” anymore…

Any solutions?

I posted a comment before, but it still says “awaiting moderation”…

Thanks a lot!

I got a question on how to add a pic in the header for the logo, here is what you put under the header section of the style.css:
#logo_placement {
height: 70px;
width: 280px;
}

#logo_placement {
float: left;
width: 280px;
position: relative;
text-align: center;
padding-top: 10px;
padding-left: 25px;
}

Than go to the header.php and add this after the code for blog info:

Help, please. List bullets are not displaying properly on IE when wrapped around a floated image. I’ve Googled and seen that this is a bug and tried all the solutions suggested but can’t find one that resolves this. What to do?

Great design, really spectacular :).

Having a bit of a problem though on IE browsers. The second column under the ‘about’ section in the demo, cuts off the top half of sentences as i scroll down the screen and come back up. None of the text in the other columns are affected….

any suggestions?

Some great themes there, thanks so much. I’ve played about with creating WP themes myself, though I specialise in SEO, and clearly don’t have the same level of creative flair that you do. - Many thanks.

I absolutely *love* the theme and am running it now on my blog.

Two things:

1) the width is fixed but I still get a horizontal scroll bar when I’m running 1024×768 resolution. How would I re-size the whole thing by a pixel or two?

2) I’m thinking of changing the “about this blog” section to an “about this post” section when folks come to an individual or search entry. I’ll share code and links when/if I do.

Thx for making such a great theme!

Hi there!

Your theme really is gorgeous!

I’d like to use it on my page, but everytime I open a post that’s password protected, it shows the password-box, but the page looks chaotic:
The sidebar is under the password box…
Look at this screenshot. (http://www.lacreole.net/problem(dilectio).png)

Could you please help me fix this?

I love the template. I implemented it on my blog, and found a problem - within blockquotes, returns aren’t being recognized.

Also - I do have a horizontal scroll at 1024×768.

Hey dude!
I used your theme on my blog.
http://blog.yosua.net/

I kinda modify it a bit here & there because I prefer 2 columns.
And yeah, there is a horizontal bar in 1024×768.

All in all, the theme rocks man!!
THANKS!

Wow! It’s truly STUNNING! I don’t know if I am treading to murky waters of insulting the design… but does anyone have it tweaked to have the two columns on either side of the main content?

I am REALLY looking for a great theme with the content in the middle. But this one is truly too beautiful to ignore!

I looks like formatting within comments is a bit wonky. You can’t get bulleted lists - and as I mentioned before, you blockquotes seem to eliminate any line returns within the blockquote.

Someone let me know what I should do.

I’m helping a friend set up her WP blog and we’re using the Dilectio WP Theme. Everything is going well except there is a repeating text error we simply can’t fix. If you surf to the site (www.theparvebaker.com) and look at the “Weekly Torah Morsel” sidebar, you’ll see that in Firefox everything looks good, but in IE the text is randomly blocked out with orange. If you use your mouse to highlight these blocked out parts, the text suddenly appears.

Do you know how to fix this? Please help, we’re at our wit’s end!

I have the same questions as #163; how do I remove on of the sidebars?

A second question; if I use the HTML validator (W3C) I still receive 8 errors, could you finetune the template in order to be error free?

thanks for making this awesome theme. I am finding a glitch where some pictures look extremely elongated, but only when viewed with safari. In firefox it looks fine. See and example here:

do you know why this is happening? or how to fix this?
thanks again,

Hello, thanx for great theme.

There is small bug: there is no pagination appears after pressing any tag. It lists only 10 (or defined number) of related posts even if there are much more posts fot this tag.

For example http://hinkal.ru/tag/dagestan/
There are 24 posts for tag “daghestan” at the moment but shows only 10 of them. Is there any idea how to fix this?

Thanks a lot.
